Health Coaching
The Wellness Corporate Solutions (WCS) coaching program takes a comprehensive, 360-degree approach to promoting lifestyle change for health improvement. With a foundation in evidence-based practices, coaching interactions touch the physical, emotional and environmental hemispheres of each employee’s life. Our participant-centered methodology, Full Circle Wellness™, harnessesFull Circle Wellness™ Coaching from Wellness Corporate Solutions the power of Motivational Interviewing and Stage of Change Theory to guide employees through a sequential coaching process, with an emphasis on concrete outcome-focused sessions anchored by the Roots of Health – Nourish, Move, Balance, Rest. Through the support of our Well Employee Program, and ongoing collaboration with a personal wellness coach, employees experience tremendous success in transitioning to healthier lifestyles and lower overall disease risk.
The Full Circle
In order to achieve a comprehensive state of wellness, employees must devote equal attention to both internal and external aspects of personal well-being. What we eat and how much we exercise do not exist independently of our jobs and social support networks.
In collaboration with a coach, employees work toward behavior change and overall health balance in the areas of physical, emotional and environmental health:
Physical Health includes how we nourish our bodies, strengthen our muscles and rest our minds. It incorporates physical conditions such as past injuries, illnesses and key biometric values (weight, cholesterol, blood pressure etc).  Proper medical adherence to prescription drugs and preventative service schedules also fall under the physical umbrella. Problems identified in the physical space often serve as the starting point for healthy lifestyle change.
Emotional Health involves personal stress management, assessment of self-image, self-awareness, personal health beliefs and other mental barriers that may hinder behavior change. Coaches assess readiness to change in the emotional realm, work to elicit intrinsic motivators, remove barriers, promote emotional resilience, self-efficacy and confidence for successful health improvement.
Environmental Health encompasses all factors that exist outside the body – person, place or thing. An employee’s familial, social and professional relationships play an integral role in supporting health behavior change.  Further, the places in which we live, work and interact socially, influence health perceptions, cultural norms and environmental exposures that can strongly affect health status. Lifestyle changes are most effective when supported by the immediate environment in which they are made.
Employee-Centered Approach
The employee-coach relationship is founded in the spirit of partnership, collaboration and alliance. The coach’sWellness Fair - WelllnessCorporateSolutions.com role is not to push a preset agenda or script, but to engage the employee at his or her state of “readiness to change” and proceed to educate, empower and promote self-efficacy. In congruence with the theory of Self Determination, employees are encouraged to outline their own personal health goals and the steps they feel ready to take in working toward those goals. The coach functions as a supportive guide, source of accountability and expert resource to steer the direction of change and maximize the likelihood for success.
Stages of Collaboration
The Full Circle Wellness™ Coaching solution consists of four phases that occur in confluence with the Stage of Change process.
Coaches work with each employee to identify areas of health concern, promote risk awareness, inspire motivation for action, set SMART goals, implement new behaviors and support long-term maintenance of a healthy lifestyle:
Engage & Indentify—At the onset of the coaching relationship, coaches engage employees and begin to build a relationship of mutual trust and respect. The employee is invited to share his/her personal health vision for the future, providing a foundation for health goals. These visions, in conjunction with a thorough review of the employee’s biometric and health risk assessment data, drive a collaborate effort between coach and employee to identify specific areas on which to focus. Employees who are not yet ready to embark on change are encouraged in this stage by the environmental support of our Well Employee Program as well as the coach’s efforts to promote education and risk awareness.

Precontemplation and Contemplation: empathy, consciousness raising, social liberation, biometric and health risk assessment review.

Educate & Inspire—Upon identifying an area of focus, the coach works with the employee to reveal and build the motivation to support change. Through evaluation of the problem behavior, employees balance pros and cons, further clarifying reasons to support change and ultimately uncovering intrinsic motivations to inspire success. By visualizing the desired outcome and gaining knowledge through interactive web-based tools and trackers, employees build the confidence and self-efficacy to begin implementing new behaviors.

Precontemplation and Contemplation: motivational interviewing, decisional balance, identification of intrinsic motivators, self reevaluation, visualization.

Set Goals & Develop Behaviors—When ready, employees set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely) health goals to drive and focus action. The coach assists in defining detailed, reasonable and attainable parameters for each goal. A collaborative discussion of barriers and required resources for action enables removal of any obstacles that may stand between the employee and successful change. As employees commit to and begin implementing new behaviors, they are equipped with personal accountability and responsibility for their health.

Preparation and Action: appreciative Inquiry, barrier analysis, SMART goals, commitment, resource assessment.

Support & Sustain—Once employees begin to implement new healthy behaviors, coaches are available to support the ongoing process of sustaining and transforming these behaviors into lifestyle habits. As difficulties arise along the way, coaches are available for education, guidance and useful tips. In addition to the support of a coach, employee health improvements are reinforced and built on through directed, web-based educational resources and the culture of wellness created by our Well Employee Program.

Action and Maintenance: environmental control, reward, supporting relationships.

Roots of Health
Full Circle Wellness™ is anchored by what we call the Roots of Health – four essential components of lifestyle behavior that must be considered in working to achieve optimal health and vitality:
Nourish—Our coaches emphasize a balanced plate, clean eating and consuming a variety of foods – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and lean proteins – to ensure an optimal intake of all nutrients. They educate on the importance of these practices for nourishing the body and mind, maintaining a healthy weight, in-range biometric markers, facilitating an active lifestyle and preventing disease. In addition, coaches are prepared to address the nutritional demands of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, digestive disorders and most other special dietary needs.
Move—An essential factor in the healthy lifestyle equation is daily movement and physical activity. Our coaches teach an approach to fitness based on the guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine, emphasizing the value of all activity while stressing incorporation of both strength and cardiovascular exercise. Working with employees at any fitness level, coaches can assist in development of exercise plans, teaching of basic movements and exploration into new forms of activity to promote long-lasting commitment and improved overall fitness.
Balance—A common challenge for many employees is that of achieving balance between all aspects of life – professional, personal, family and friends. The ongoing struggle of trying to take on too much at one time can result in constant emotional stress. Coaches are expert at helping employees identify and employ techniques for daily stress management best-suited to their lifestyles. Further, from the time constraints of regular travel to the emotional struggles of maintaining personal relationships, employees will be aided in identifying and prioritizing areas of difficulty so that efforts can be distributed to promote balance and health improvement.
Rest—As an opportunity to recover, rebuild and refresh, rest is an absolutely essential part of the wellness equation. While often given the lowest level of priority by employees, coaches emphasize and teach the value of adequate sleep and relaxation as a part of every wellness plan. As they gain useful tips, tools and resources to optimize rest, employees develop a foundation on which to maximize progress in all other areas of health.
